About Southgate, Michigan
Southgate is a Wayne County suburb in the Downriver cluster south of Detroit, grown from Pierre Michel Campau's 1795 farm into a postwar bedroom community incorporated in 1958. It is one of the few U.S. cities literally named after a shopping center, and today it markets itself as the Dining Capital of Downriver for its dense restaurant corridors along Eureka, Trenton, and Fort roads.
